Visualizing patterns in surveillance video

Sometimes understanding the frequency of events can be more useful than the video itself. Even with Camio’s fast video search, it can be hard to see important patterns over time — like the most popular times people approach a business entrance — without a graphic visualization. So Camio offers help on every query by turning search results into a frequency chart when you click the icon in the bottom-left corner of the results.

For example, when viewing the search results for the query [people], it’s easier to see that 11am to 1pm was busiest on Saturday, 12pm to 3pm on Sunday, and Monday was pretty evenly distributed between 10am and 6:30pm.

When Queries Get Complex
When the query is more complex — like [people in red or blue] — then the chart also breaks out the frequency of each interpretation of the query to show 1) people, 2) people in blue, and 3) people in red.

The query [people in red or blue] shows 1) people, 2) people in blue, and 3) people in red.
The timeline expands and contracts based on the earliest and latest date of the search results currently being viewed. But to zoom-in, drag your mouse to highlight a specific timespan as shown in this video:

This data is also available programmatically via the Camio API, but this quick visualization of any query can help see trends and outliers quickly. Enjoy.
